My name is Marlana Matthews, I am honored to be with you at Cleveland Elementary School, serving as your principal.   Being an educator is an absolute joy! I have my Bachelor’s Degree from UAB in Elementary Education and both my Master and Ed.S. in Instructional Leadership also from UAB. 

I am originally from Mobile and spent much of my childhood in different cities along the coast.  I moved to Birmingham when I married my wonderful husband, Paul.  We have two sons that live in Madison.  My older son, Joshua  works as a software engineer. My younger son, Cameron will be graduating from UAH with a computer science degree in December.  Our family is rounded out by one cat named Tiger, a miniature poodle named Pooh Bear and a Yorkie/Mini-Schnauzer named Cooper.  

I can’t wait to see the amazing things that will happen at Cleveland Elementary School this year!
