What's Happening

Panther Publication

August 1, 2020

This has been a summer of changes at Cleveland Elementary! Not only are we having to make several changes due to COVID-19, we have had some teacher moves and new faces added. Here is a listing of the changes and new faces at Cleveland Elementary.

  • Mrs. Roper has moved to Blountsville Elementary to be their new EL teacher.
  • Mr. Thomason has moved to take her place as the 4th grade Reading teacher.
  • Mrs. Howse will be our newest first grade teacher.
  • Ms. C. Salamone retired at the end of last year.
  • Ms. Hudson will be moving to 4th grade science.
  • Ms. Latta will be our newest 3rd grade teacher.
  • Mrs. Tanner will be our newest 5th grade math teacher.

Some other changes may involve our class rosters. I released the class rosters on the last day of school with the thoughts that the summer would slow the virus and we would be starting school as normal. This, unfortunately, has not happened. With parents given the option to choose remote or blended learning, it could possibly cause our current rosters to become unbalanced. It is possible that I may have to shift a few students in order to make the rosters balanced. I have taken down the class rosters for now and will repost them sometime Wednesday night or Thursday morning after the registration window has closed. I will then have pictures posted on our Panther Parents and our Cleveland Elementary Facebook page. I know this is not ideal, but it is another complication that has occurred because of COVID-19.

Please remember that all students entering into the 6th grade are required to have the TDAP vaccination. You will need to bring an updated immunization form sent to the office as soon as possible. Failure to do so will impact your child from being a part of their class. +

Meet the Teacher

With all of the restrictions the school is navigating during this pandemic, there are going to be many changes to how we normally do things at the school. We are planning on having a Meet the Teacher time, but with limitations. Since we have to have social distancing practices in place, we are going to have different groups of people coming at different times. These times will be set up by the student's last name. If there is a family where the children have different last names, you will need to only pick one time and email the teachers to let them know the reason you are coming outside of the scheduled time. We are asking that you limit the number of people that you bring to Meet the Teacher in order to keep social distancing practices in place. This would preferably be one parent and the student. We will have Meet the Teacher on August 7th during the following times:

  • 3:00-3:45 Last names begin with A-E
  • 4:00-4:45 Last names begin with F-L
  • 5:00-5:45 Last names begin with M-S
  • 6:00-6:45 Last names begin with T-Z

If your child has medication that needs to be given to the nurse, you will be able to drop off the form and medication during Meet the Teacher. This will help you from having to come to the school at another time to take care of this matter.

We know with Virtual and Blended Learning this year, some of you may need a device from the school. We will have devices ready to give out during Meet the Teacher. You will have to sign a device agreement form that holds you responsible for any damages to the device. At this time, we will only have devices for parents who have internet. Due to long lines, we will only be distributing devices to remote learners. Blended learners will take home forms on Thursday to sign for a device. Please communicate with your teacher if you are a blended learner and will need a device. We will only send home the agreements to students where parents have requested a form.

It has been a long tradition at Cleveland Elementary and other schools to take your children to class on the first two days of school. Unfortunately this year we will not be able to have this practice in place. I know this is not the news you would like to hear nor is this the news that I like giving. Due to CDC guidelines, we will be unable to have parents on campus in student areas until further notice.

This makes coming to Meet the Teacher even more important. You can prepare your child ahead of time where they need to go on the first days of school. This will also be a great time to get that important picture with your child and teacher. We will have extra personnel outside and throughout the buildings to ensure your child gets to the correct class. If you can make sure the name stickers that will be provided are on your child's back where they can't pull them off, we can get everyone to the correct destination. Even our precious ones who are a little shy.
